How the days until a date is worked out
The calculator reads today's date from your device at midnight, then subtracts it from your target date, divides by the length of a day and takes the whole number. If the target is in the future you get a positive countdown, and if it is in the past the result is negative and shown as days ago. It also divides the day count by seven to show the gap in weeks and leftover days.
Because the count depends on today, the page shows a dash until it has loaded in your browser, then fills in the number. This keeps the first render stable and avoids a flash of the wrong value. A target set to today reads as zero days remaining.

Worked examples
Counting down to Christmas
Inputs: Today 1 December, target 25 December
Result: 24 days until the date, which is 3 weeks and 3 days. The count excludes today itself.
A date that has passed
Inputs: Today 26 December, target 25 December
Result: 1 day ago. Past dates flip to counting up from the target.

- The count uses your device clock at midnight local time, so a different time zone can shift it by a day.
- It counts whole days only and does not show hours or minutes remaining.
- The result will not appear until the page has loaded in your browser, because today is read after the first render.
Common mistakes
- Expecting the target day to be included in the count. A target of tomorrow shows 1 day, not 2.
- Reading a past date as a large positive number. Past dates are labelled days ago, not days until.

What happens if the date has already passed?
