How weighted GPA is calculated
Grade point average on the 4.0 scale is a weighted average of your grades, where courses worth more credits count for more. This calculator multiplies each course's grade points by its credit hours to get quality points, adds those across all your courses, then divides by the total number of credits.
Because it is weighted, a strong grade in a four-credit course moves your GPA more than the same grade in a one-credit course. You can add or remove course rows to match your exact transcript, and the average updates as you go.

- It uses the common plus and minus 4.0 scale shown in the dropdown. Schools that weight honours or AP courses differently will not match exactly.
- Credits accept half values, so enter your institution's actual credit hours rather than rounding.
- It calculates a single term or cumulative figure from the rows you enter and does not store past semesters automatically.
Common mistakes
- Entering all courses as one credit each, which turns the weighted average into a simple average and changes the result.
- Picking the wrong grade band, since the gap between a B and a B- of 0.3 points can move a borderline GPA.
